Set Boundaries, Find Peace.

Written by Author Nedra Glover Tawwab

We all know boundaries are important, yet some of us know better how and why to set them than others. For those of us who need a bit more guidance, or even those looking to strengthen their boundary-setting knowledge and skills, the instant New York Times bestseller Set Boundaries, Find Peace is a deeply valuable read.

With a host of experience, licensed counsellor and highly regarded relationship expert, author Nedra Glover Tawwab approaches this book by explaining what healthy boundaries embody, the various types of boundaries there are, and how to express ourselves from a place of empowerment, enabling the reader to feel safe in using the word “no” without fear of reprisal and offending those around them.

Boundaries are an important part of life in order to set and maintain balance in all facets of our lives, whether it be work/life, family/relationships, spouse/kids, the list goes on. They are also integral for us to maintain our own peace and inner balance. Setting healthy boundaries first and foremost for yourself is, we believe, the first step in self-care.

Tawwab dives deep as she unpacks the complexities of boundaries and boundary setting in this highly digestible read. I could not put it down – I read it from cover to cover during a plane ride home from Halifax and feel like I stepped off that plane transformed. I gained awareness and current education around cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), and straightforward tools I can use to express my needs confidently without apology. She even discussed boundaries (or lack thereof) and the correlation between codependency, burnout, anxiety, and power struggles. We’ve all been there, right? This book transformed how I look at these things.

If you want a read this month that will deliver education and research while offering compassion and a gentle (yet direct) approach at understanding boundaries and how to set them, I highly recommend Set Boundaries, Find Peace.
